81% in Iowa Support Legalizing Medical Cannabis, New Poll Finds
A Quinnipiac University poll released today has found that an overwhelming majority of those in Iowa support legalizing medical cannabis, 81% to 17%, including 68% of all age groups and political parties.
According to the poll, Democrats support legalizing cannabis for medical purposes at a rate of 89% to 10% Independents support is at 82% to 15%. Republican support was at 68%, compared to 29% who are opposed.
Surprisingly, the poll found that a person’s age had little effect on their support for legalizing medical cannabis; for example, 82% of those aged 18 to 29 support the move, just a 3% increase over those aged 65 and older.
Of those polled, just 16% reported that they believe cannabis to be more harmful than alcohol, compared with 80% who believe it to be equally, or less dangerous than alcohol.
57% of those in the state wouldn’t be bothered with their neighbor cultivating cannabis.
