South Dakota Tribe to Open Nation’s First Cannabis Resort

Flandreau-santee-siouxThe Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe in South Dakota, which voted in June to legalize recreational cannabis for everyone 21 and older (not just tribal members), now plans to open the nation’s first cannabis resort.

“We want it to be an adult playground,” says tribal President Anthony Reider “There’s nowhere else in American that has something like this.”

The resort, according to Reider, will have a smoking lounge where cannabis can be purchased, as well as a nightclub, bar and food service, arcade games and and eventually slot machines and an outdoor music venue.

The tribe is anticipating that the project will bring in up to $2 million a month in profit. The tribe plans to begin selling cannabis at a New Year’s Eve party on December 31st.
