South Dakota Tribe to Open Nation’s First Cannabis Resort

Flandreau-santee-siouxThe Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe in South Dakota, which voted in June to legalize recreational cannabis for everyone 21 and older (not just tribal members), now plans to open the nation’s first cannabis resort.

“We want it to be an adult playground,” says tribal President Anthony Reider “There’s nowhere else in American that has something like this.”

The resort, according to Reider, will have a smoking lounge where cannabis can be purchased, as well as a nightclub, bar and food service, arcade games and and eventually slot machines and an outdoor music venue.

South Dakota Tribe to Begin Selling Cannabis to Everyone 21+ by January 1st

marijuana-legalizationThe Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe, which voted last week to legalize cannabis, has announced that it will have a recreational cannabis retail outlet open and operating by January 1st of next year.

This outlet, which will be supplied by a separate cultivation center, will be open to everyone 21, not just members of the tribe.

“It looks like it’s getting a lot of momentum,” says tribal president Anthony Reider. “The more we dug into it we realized that for us to be able to get ahead of it and get into it early would be a good thing.”

South Dakota Tribe Votes to Legalize Cannabis Possession and Distribution

The executive committee of the Flandreau Santee Sioux Tribe, located in South Dakota, voted 5 to 1 last week to legalize recreational cannabis. Trustee Roxee Johnson was the sole “No” vote.

The proposal establishes a cannabis production facility, and a separate cannabis retail outlet, which will distribute cannabis to anyone 21 and older, not just members of the tribe. The measure also authorizes a location where cannabis can be safely and legally consumed, similar to a bar.
