Nebraska Senate Votes to Legalize Hemp

With only one Senator voting in opposition, Legislative Bill 1001, a proposalHEMP9999 to legalize hemp, has been approved through Nebraska’s Senate. The final vote was 32 to 1.

Under the proposed legislation, industrial hemp would be removed from the state’s list of controlled substances, legalizing its cultivation and production. Farmers wishing to grow hemp would need to receive a license from the state’s Department of Agriculture; the fee will be set at $150 annually.

The approval of Legislative Bill 1001 comes the same day as the passage of Senate Bill 357 – a proposal to legalize hemp – through Indiana’s House of Representatives.

Legislative Bill 1001 now moves to the state’s House of Representatives, where its passage will send it to the governor’s desk for consideration.
