Medical Cannabis Legalization Passed Unanimously by Luxembourg Parliament

Legislation to legalize medical cannabis has been passed unanimously by the Luxembourg Parliament, reports the Luxembourg Times.

The approved law allows for cannabis oils and pills to be imported from Canada for medical use. Certain licensed pharmacies will be authorized the distribute the medicine to qualified patients.

To become a patient, an individual with chronic pain, muscle spasms as a result of multiple sclerosis, or nausea caused by chemotherapy, would need to receive a recommendation from a general practitioner.

“I am pleased that the House has agreed with the bill to legalize access to cannabis for medical purposes,” said Health Minister Lydia Mutsch following the vote. “The medical use of cannabis is an important step in our efforts to reduce the pain and suffering of some patients, where usual treatments do not allow it”.
