Virginia Governor Terry McAuliffer has signed into law two measures which legalize the medical use of cannabis extracts for the treatment of epilepsy.

Senate Bill 1235 and House Bill 1445 both include emergency clauses, meaning they’ll take effect immediately.

The new law allows those with seizure disorders who receive a recommendation from a physician to possess and use cannabis extracts that contain at least 15% CBD (cannabidiol), and no more than 5% THC (delta-9-tetrahydrocannabinol) or THCA (tetrahydrocannabinol acid).

Both measures make it clear that practitioners shall not face prosecution if they distribute cannabis extracts to qualified patients.

hey prince actually I’m very well informed on psycho-active THC and the over 80 CBD’s and over 400 compounds in the cannabis plant. I have been a legal cannabis caregiver, patient and grower since 2000. I grow and bred 2 stains that are like charlottes web High % of CBD’s and low THC (4% thc to 17% cbd’s).. In 1999 I was diagnosed with stage 4 (I m a nam vet sprayed with agent orange). The VA said do chemo and radiation or be dead in 6 months. They prescribed me morphine, valiums and perecettes.I decided to get a second opinion from my Civilian MD. To make a long story short I researched how to extract thc/cbd oil out of the plant. In 2001 15 months after doing THC oil ( called phoenix tears now) I went in to VA for yearly physical 5 hours of tests. 1 week later get a call come in asap no appointment necessary. They were SHOCKED and couldn’t believe I was alive but also I wasnt in remission but was CANCER-FREE. Medical cannabis needs to be legalized not just cbd oil. I’m glad our state has REAL MLEGAL MEDICAL CANNABIS not a scaled down cbd oil only ( hemp is high in cbd oil as well as all the omegas our body needs. can’t grow your own medicine is totally wrong. thank God we have it all legal here.

The only thing this law allows is an affirmative defense for possession if you jump through all of the hoops. This law still treats EVERY Virginia Patient as criminals and does not allow for cultivation nor distribution.

one thing alot of these politicans don’t realize u need THC and CBD’s TOGETHER for the medicine to have full effect. Example big pharms man-made THC’s marinol and adderall has no Real THC in it its man made sythetic thc. Full legalization of medical cannabis needs to be added. when the newest governmental scientific research proves cannabis is 114 times safer than Alcohol. Why is alcohol and tobacco together kill the average of 1/2 million people a year and these 2 poisons kills Americans daily, these 2 are descheduled totally legal while cannabis DEA has schedule 1 drug no medical benefits WHY????????????? DEA doesnt listen to scientific and medical research studies only corp americans big pharm, alcohol industries, oil dupont etcs. big money lobbying (real word is bribes).

You seem very misinformed on the subject of medical cannabis so i will write a short summary of the two main compounds in cannabis, THC and CBD.

CBD is one of the main compound’s in cannabis, and has been shown to counter the effects of THC, reducing the psychoactive effects, as well as having a wide variety of medical uses.
It is most effective at treating epilepsy and psychotic issues, calming brain activity which triggers epileptic fits/symptoms as well as psychotic behavior.

THC is the other main compound in cannabis, it is psychoactive. Which in the most basic explanation, alters brain functions, like mood and perception. As well as triggering certain brain activity.
THC has been shown make existing cases epilepsy, as well as psychotic disorders like schizophrenia, much much worse, as well as underlying cases to surface.
THC is the compound which causes the feeling of being “high”.
It has a wide variety of medical uses and is also used recreational and religiously.

On my personal opinion, i think medical as well as recreational cannabis should be completely legal, and procedures put in place to ensure that corporations and companies don’t control the market.

“Both measures allow make it clear that practitioners shall not face prosecution if they distribute cannabis extracts to qualified patients.” Does this mean doctors can distribute cannabis based medicine. Geez, something they did like 100 years ago, no doubt. Interesting.
