Ryan Reynolds is Producing a Marijuana-Themed Re-Imagining of Home Alone, Titled Stoned Alone
Deadpool star Ryan Reynolds is attached to produce Stoned Alone, a Fox-developed re-imaging of the popular 90s film series Home Alone. Augustine Frizzell (Never Goin’ Back) is set to direct, with Kevin Burrows and Matt Mider having penned the script.
According to Deadline.com, Stoned Alone will center around a twenty-something cannabis cultivator who misses the plane for his holiday ski trip. After deciding to instead get high, someone break into his house. This leaves him with no choice but to try and thwart the thieves and “defend his castle”. Reynolds will produce the film through his Fox-based Maximum Effort production banner, with Maximum Effort’s George Dewey serving as executive producer.
As noted by Deadline, Frizzell is a new comic voice. She directed Never Goin’ Back, which premiered at Sundance and will be released by August 24, and she’s directing Euphoria for HBO. The writers scripted for Netflix the comedy that had been called Eggplant Emoji, but is now called The Package.
The original Home Alone was released in holiday season, 1990. It grossed an out-sized $476 million, spawned two sequels, and made a star of Macaulay Culkin.
