New Hampshire House Committee Votes 16 to 0 to Legalize Hemp
New Hampshire’s House Criminal Justice and Public Safety Committee has voted 16 to 0 to approve House Bill 494, a proposal to legalize industrial hemp.
House Bill 494, introduced by Representatives Elizabeth Edwards (D-Hillsborough), Laura Jones (R-Strafford), Robert Cushing (D-Rockingham), and Michael Sylvia (R-Belknap), would make it so that “industrial hemp shall not be designated as a controlled substance.” Farmers would not be required to obtain a license from the state in order to grow the crop.
The same committee that approved House Bill 494 recently approved legislation that would decriminalize the possession of small amounts of cannabis.
