Nevada Legalizes Cannabis
Nevada Question 2 to Legalize Cannabis has Been Passed by Voters
Question 2, an initiative to legalize cannabis, has won handily in Nevada. The measure was the first of this year’s statewide cannabis legalization initiatives to officially make the ballot.
Question 2 is modeled almost directly after Colorado’s Amendment 64, approved by voters in 2012. The measure allows those 21 and older to possess up to an ounce of cannabis. It also allows them to grow up to six plants, and authorizes a system of licensed and regulated cannabis retail outlets. The initiative explicitly allows those from out-of-state to legally buy and use cannabis.
The initiative will take effect in less than two months, on January 1st. However, cannabis retail outlets likely won’t be open until sometime in 2018.
