Canadian College to Offer Program on Cannabis Cultivation
A Canadian college in the Atlantic province of New Brunswick has announced plans to institute a program on the cultivation of cannabis, designed to help students get a job with a company that produces the medicine.
The program will launch next year at the French-language College Communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick, according Michel Doucet, executive director of continuing education and customized learning.
The announcement comes several months after the country elected Justin Trudeau, who campaigned on a platform of legalizing cannabis and says legislation will be introduced in the spring, as Prime Minister. Medical marijuana is already legal across Canada, though the number of companies in the industry is relatively small at the moment.
In August, the government of New Brunswick, where Communautaire du Nouveau-Brunswick has five campuses, said it invested C$4 million (roughly $3 million) in a medical cannabis company that will create over 200 jobs in the region.
According to Doucet, the college is still determining the details of the program such as its length, class size and frequency of classes.
According to Marijuana Business Daily, the list of courses being offered at U.S. universities includes Business and Law of Marijuana at Hofstra University in New York, Marijuana Law and Policy at Vanderbilt University in Tennessee, and Business Opportunities Related to Marijuana Legalization at Anne Arundel Community College in Maryland.
