Breaking: Signatures Validated for Florida Medical Cannabis Initiative
It’s official: the Florida-based organization United for Care has officially gathered enough signatures to put their medical cannabis legalization initiative on the ballot in this November’s election.
The Supervisors of Elections have confirmed that more than 683,149 valid signatures (the amount required to secure a spot on the ballot) have been gathered by petitioners, though the actual amount collected ranges closer to 1.2 million.
The initiative is guaranteed a place on the ballot, pending a ruling by the Florida Supreme Court. Since it is written as a constitutional amendment, the measure will require a 60% majority vote; however, a new survey released this week from Public Policy Polling, one of the nation’s most accurate political polling groups, has found Floridians support the initiative by a promising 65% to 23% lead.
