Yes on Amendment 2 to Legalize Medical Cannabis in Florida

An initiative to legalize medical cannabis in Florida has received its official ballot title; Amendment 2.amendment2

If approved into law this November, Amendment 2 would legalize the possession of up to 2.5 ounces of cannabis for those with a qualifying medical condition such as cancer, glaucoma or chronic pain. The proposal would authorize state-licensed dispensaries to distribute cannabis to patients.

Given that the proposal is a constitutional amendment, it will require 60% of the vote to pass into law.

According to recent polling, this should definitely be doable.

The initiative was put forth by the organization United for Care, which is headed by attorney John Morgan, a former fundraiser for President Obama who has vowed to spend “whatever it takes” to get his initiative passed.

The laws as currently written are too strict as far as cultivation. Worked in agriculture 39 years. 27 as a greenhouse grower for major corporations and 15 on a farm as a contract pesticide applicator on a vegetable farm. I would like to build a greenhouse and cultivate but the Medical Law will only an elite few to grow. Not fair!

Once again we will see how over regulation will lead to larger underground distribution. Florida is trying to regulate the growing so much that folks will not be able to get proper access to meds.

Only established nurseries of 30 years can even apply for a permit to grow? This is a joke, it will be years before folks get reasonable access.

Patients will grow illegally and distribute to other patients.

What has happened where people looking for a little wind down of something other than alcohol have been the subject of items such as spice your kids were able to buy at any Indian store how can it even be remotely compared to marijuana I’m sure a lot of people if given a choice would rather of had their children try some weed other than alcohol pill mill narcotics or any such item at an Indian store the real killer are those three items

I myself will vote no just bc of the fact that patients will not be able to grow there own. So basically they are going to control the meds just like the big pharm. companies already do. Its just a big monoply going on here. The prices will be sky high and patients will not have access to meds. The only ones going that this amendent is going to help are the big companies get richer.

Please reconsider. I live with chronic pain in my head and neck after a car accident and cervical fusion surgery. I have read the Amendment and it is pretty general. I understand your point and even agree with most of it. However, I also believe that until the Fed takes cannabis off the Schedule 1 banned substances list, any law to obtain it legally would help. We can fight for more once this Amendment is passed. I too noticed that there are no “grow” inclusions in the amendment. I think we can get that in the addendum once this is passed. These things take time, unfortunately, and some of us are on our last threads!

Juan, so you are saying that you will vote to continue the crime against humanity against those in need of cannabis as medicine, just because it’s not perfect. Yes, I admit it’s not perfect, but I will take that over the current status quo. What’s ironic is that you don’t trust corporations handling weed, but yet by your intention to vote “no”, you seem to put all your faith the government carrying out their terroristic drug war. If you vote no, you are as bit as despicable as the drug warriors. Please Juan, don’t be that guy! It’s not too late to do the right thing.

Why are the opponents of this amendment advertising that if passed you can obtain marijuana without a doctors perscrition ? It is a doctor in the advertisement saying you can just get marijuana in a pillmill and headship. How about some adds neutralizing this lie.

Andrew – WESH2 News actually had a story on this last week. Because MMJ is not FDA approved, doctors cannot/do not need to write a prescription like they do for pharma drugs (FDA drugs). What WILL happen is that the doctor will write an Order saying that the patient will benefit from MMJ for their medical condition. There will not be “pill mill” pot shops either. They will have to apply through the state and will be regulated.

I plan to vote for Amendment 2, but the commercial showing that poor little girl is extremely off putting. She is being exploited. If you want to make a point, use a person that can give their permission to be used to further the cause. There have got to be plenty of cancer patients that will speak for you without being exploited without their permission.
