U.S. House Votes to Force President Obama to Crack Down on States That Have Legalized Cannabis

The U.S. House of Representatives voted 233 to 181 earlier this month to pass H.R. 4138, the Enforce the Law Act, a measure to force President Obama to crackabcnews2 down on states that have legalize cannabis. Fortunately, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid says the bill will be “dead on arrival” in the Senate.

Under the proposed law, the House or Senate would be authorized to sue the president for his inaction.

“The Constitution gives Congress the responsibility to write the laws and the Executive to enforce them,” says Representative Trey Gowdy (R-SC), one of the bill’s sponsors. “We don’t pass suggestions. We don’t pass ideas. We pass laws. Regardless of our politics, I hope my colleagues have enough regard for our work to expect those laws would be faithfully executed.”

Not a single Republican voted against the bill, and only 5 Democrats voted in favor.

Even if the bill were to pass the Senate, President Obama ha threatened a veto as it “violates the separation of powers.”

Given what the Controlled Substances Act directs our executive branch to do regarding substances that are found not to meet the stringent requirements of being classified as “schedule I”, reform advocates should embrace this apparent ignorance of our lawmakers. The CSA does NOT say that cannabis is not to be used as medicine because of it’s “schedule I” listing; but, rather that it can no longer be classified as “schedule I” if it is found to have any medical use whatsoever.

There is protocol described explicitly within the CSA for how to deal with this situation that we are clearly in now: the substance in question must be removed from “schedule I” and placed in a more appropriate schedule, or be “descheduled” altogether if it does not meet the requirements of any of the schedules defined within the law. Being unquestionably non-toxic, the CSA gives no merit for the Attorney General to do anything other than immediately deschedule cannabis. Despite what we have been told countless times by people on all sides of this issue, the law actually is on our side — so long as it is “faithfully executed” in accordance with real scientific knowledge of this (already extensively studied) medicinal plant.

I want to be one of the voices for the disabled by being one of the first to stand up for their voices in a long time.
I was born into a very dysfunctional situation. I did not deserve to be treated, neglected, abused and passed around to whoever would watch me. I’ am now a grown adult and I’ve been disabled since I was 13 years old. I was hit by a city bus on my way to school. In court it was proven to be the bus drivers fault. The accident was March 8, 1984 in Sacramento, CA on Diablo Dr. Today, I suffer from many medical conditions but to look at me, you wouldn’t know it.
I quit taking my Dr. prescribed legal drugs with all the side effects. I started doing hours of research on the internet about smoking marijuana. I also found that cannabis, hemp and whatever else that goes with it have several other options to help us globally not to mention helping me to become a happier, healthier person today as I seek to lay down my roots in a house that I’ am happy to call my home today. I left Florida on my own with nothing but a duffle bag & I started hitchhiking for 2 months until I got to Las Vegas, NV. I knew that either I was going to make it or break it here. I think I’ve made it!!!!

Fucking hypocrites. The ACA is a law that was written and passed by both the house and Senate. The republicans don’t respect that law. Douchebags.
