Trump Invites Philippines President to White House, Supports His Murderous Drug War

President Donald Trump has invited Phillipines President Rodrigo Duterte to the White House despite his murderous drug war that has led to the killing of over 7,000 people without trial.

Philippines President Rodrigo Duterte is responible for the murder of thousands of suspected drug dealers who faced no trial.

President Trump invited President Rodrigo Duterte of the Philippines to the White House after having a “very friendly conversation with Mr. Duterte” on Saturday. According to a statement issued by the White House, the two “discussed the fact that the Philippines is fighting very hard to rid its country of drugs.”

Since he was elected President last May, Duterte has championed a campaign that is responsible for extrajudicial killing of thousands of people which has drawn international ire.

Donald Trump: “You Have to Legalize” to Win the War on Drugs

Years before becoming the 45th President of the United States, Donald Trump was firmly in support of legalizing drugs to end the drug war.

donald trump war on drugs“We’re losing badly the war on drugs”, Trump said in a 1990 Miami Herald interview. “You have to legalize drugs to win that war. You have to take the profit away from these drug czars.”

Over 25 years later, and how newly-elected President Trump will handle the war on drugs is yet to be seen. On the campaign trail he mostly strayed away from the subject; the comments he did make were unfortunately more aligned with a typical Republican candidate than his 1990 remarks, but what he’ll actually do as president is entirely unknown.
