Tennessee Hemp Legalization Bill Overwhelmingly Passes Full House, Senate Committee

Tennessee’s full House of Representatives voted 88 to 5 Monday to approve House Bill 2445, a measure to legalize industrial hemp. Today, the Senate Judiciaryhemp (1) Committee passed the same measure with a unanimous vote.

The proposal, sponsored by Representative Jeremy Faison and Senator Frank Nicely, would allow those who become licensed with the state’s Department of Agriculture to legally cultivate and sell industrial hemp.

Tennessee Lawmakers Approve Hemp Legalization Proposal

Tennessee’s House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee has voted to pass House Bill 2445,hemphemphooooorah a measure to legalize industrial hemp.

The bill, sponsored by Republican Representatives Jeremy Faison, would allow farmers in the state to cultivate hemp, if they receive a license from the state. The proposal is contingent on a change in federal law, but the recent legalization of hemp research by the U.S. in states that have done the same will allow Tennessee farmers to cultivate hemp for research purposes immediately if the measure is approved into law.

Legislation to Legalize Medical Cannabis Filed in Tennessee

Legislation to explicitly legalize the medical use of cannabis in Tennessee has been filed in the state’s House of Representatives.budtube

Under the proposed law filed last week by Representative Sherry Jones, the possession and use of cannabis will be legalized for qualifying patients (those with debilitating conditions such as cancer, glaucoma and multiple sclerosis, to name a few) and their caregiver.

Tennessee Lawmaker Considering Legislation to Legalize Hemp

“It’s not against the law to own it. It’s not against the law to import it from Canada or China. It’shemp1 just against the law for a farmer to raise it”, states Senator Frank Niceley, noting the hypocrisy of America’s current hemp laws, “you can make thousands of products from it, and we import about half a billion dollars of it a year.”
