Members of Congress Call for Cutting DEA Funding to Increase Funding for Domestic Violence and Child Abuse Prevention

dea fundingA coalition of 12 members of the U.S. House of Representatives, led by Representative Ted Lieu (D-CA), has written a letter to House leadership calling for the passage of a provision in an upcoming spending bill that would remove at least half of the Drug Enforcement Administration’s (DEA) funding for their failed Cannabis Eradication Program.

The provision would take this money (around $9 million) and put it towards programs that “play a far more useful role in promoting the safety and economic prosperity of the American people”, such as domestic violence and child abuse prevention.

New Study: Cannabis Can Kill Colon Cancer Cells

A new study published in the most recent issue of the journal Phytomedicine, and published online by the National Institute of Health, has found that cannabis-basedcannabisbud medicines may provide a cure for colon cancer.

For the study, researchers “investigated the effect of a standardized Cannabis sativa extract with high content of cannabidiol (CBD), here named CBD BDS, i.e. CBD botanical drug substance, on colorectal cancer cell proliferation and in experimental models of colon cancer in vivo.”

While conducting the study, it was found that; “CBD reduced cell proliferation in tumoral, but not in healthy, cells. In vivo, CBD reduced AOM-induced preneoplastic lesions and polyps as well as tumour growth in the xenograft model of colon cancer.”

New Study Finds Hemp Seeds Can Prevent and Treat Hypertension

A study published in the November issue of the European Journal of Nutrition has found that hemp seeds may not only treat hypertension, but may have the abilityhempseeds to prevent it as well.

“This work determined the ability of hemp seed meal protein hydrolysate (HMH)-containing diets to attenuate elevated blood pressure (hypertension) development in spontaneously hypertensive rats (SHRs)”, states the study’s abstract. “Effects of diets on plasma levels of renin and angiotensin I-converting enzyme (ACE) in the SHRs were also determined.”

According to researchers at the Department of Pharmacy at the University of Pisa in Italy; “Cannabinoids are implicated in the control of cell proliferation, but little is known about the role of the endocannabinoid system in human malignant melanoma [the deadliest form of skin cancer]. This study was aimed at characterizing the in vitro antitumor activity of anandamide [a naturally occurring cannabinoid] in A375 melanoma cells.”
