Tennessee Hemp Legalization Bill Signed Into Law After 117 to 2 Vote in Legislature

hemphempLegislation (House Bill 2032) legalizing the licensed cultivation and production of industrial hemp has been signed into law in Tennessee by Governor Bill Haslam. With 119 members of the state’s legislature voting on the bill, only two members voted “No”.

The new law, introduced by Representative Jeremy Faison (R-Cosby), allows farmers to cultivate hemp as an agricultural product, so long as they receive a license from the state’s Department of Agriculture. According to official projections, legal hemp cultivation will result in hundreds of thousands of dollars in new revenue for the state, while opening up a lucrative new market for farmers.

Cannabis Oil Bill Approved by Tennessee House Committee

Legislation thattennessee would allow for the possession and use of low-THC cannabis oil has been approved by Tennessee’s House Criminal Justice Committee.

House Bill 109, filed by Representative Jeremy Faison (R-Cosby), would allow for the use of low-THC (tetrahydrocannabinol), high-CBD (cannabidiol) cannabis oil for those with seizure disorders such as epilepsy who receive a recommendation from a physician. The proposal unfortunately wouldn’t establish a legal means for patients to obtain the medicine.

Tennessee Hemp Legalization Bill Overwhelmingly Passes Full House, Senate Committee

Tennessee’s full House of Representatives voted 88 to 5 Monday to approve House Bill 2445, a measure to legalize industrial hemp. Today, the Senate Judiciaryhemp (1) Committee passed the same measure with a unanimous vote.

The proposal, sponsored by Representative Jeremy Faison and Senator Frank Nicely, would allow those who become licensed with the state’s Department of Agriculture to legally cultivate and sell industrial hemp.

Tennessee Lawmakers Approve Hemp Legalization Proposal

Tennessee’s House Agriculture and Natural Resources Committee has voted to pass House Bill 2445,hemphemphooooorah a measure to legalize industrial hemp.

The bill, sponsored by Republican Representatives Jeremy Faison, would allow farmers in the state to cultivate hemp, if they receive a license from the state. The proposal is contingent on a change in federal law, but the recent legalization of hemp research by the U.S. in states that have done the same will allow Tennessee farmers to cultivate hemp for research purposes immediately if the measure is approved into law.
