Weedmaps.com Donates $1 Million to California Legalization Campaign

Weedmaps.comweedmaps, a website that connects people with medical cannabis dispensaries and doctors, has contributed $1 million to a campaign looking to place a recreational cannabis legalization initiative on the 2016 general election ballot.

The money, donated by Weedmaps Media, LLC (formed in 2008), was given to Californians for Sensible Reform. It’s unclear exactly what the language of the proposed initiative will be, but it’s expected to be revealed in the coming days.

Poll: 55% of California Voters Support Legalizing Recreational Cannabis

New polling conducted by the Publiccali1 Policy Institute of California has found that a majority of California voters support the legalization of cannabis for recreational purposes.

According to the poll, 55% of likely voters support legalizing cannabis, slightly higher than the amount of support found among all California adults (53%).

The survey found support for legalizing cannabis to be at its highest point since the polling firm began asking the question in 2010.

Initiative to Defelonize Drug Possession in California Leading 62% to 25% in Newest Poll

New polling released Tuesday by the47 Public Policy Institute of California has found that Proposition 47, an initiative to defelonize certain nonviolent crimes including personal drug possession, is currently favored by 62% of voters in the state, with just 25% opposed. The proposal will be voted on this November.

Proposition 47, titled the Safe Neighborhoods and Schools Act, would remove felony charges for the personal possession of illegal substances, reducing the sentence to a misdemeanor (unless the person has a history of violent crimes). It would also defelonize other nonviolent offenses including petty theft and check fraud.

New Poll: Majority in California Want Cannabis Legalized

According to a new poll conducted by the Public Policy Institute of California, 60% of likely voters in the state are in favor of legalizing cannabis, the highest yet recorded by the institute. Only 38% are in opposition to such a move. Majority support was expressed among all age groups.cannabisleaf

Support was particularly high among Democrats, with only 33% being opposed to legalization. Unsurprisingly, Republicans were the least likely to support legalizing cannabis, although nearly half (45%) responded in favor.
