Legislation to Legalize Medical Marijuana Passed by Full West Virginia Senate

Medical marijuana would be legal under a bill approved today by West Virginia’s full Senate.

Substitute Senate Bill 386 was passed through its third and final reading today with a 28 to 6 vote, sending it to the House of Representatives. Passage in the House would send it to Governor Jim Justice for consideration.

The proposed legislation would legalize medical marijuana possession and use for those with a qualifying condition who receive a doctor recommendation. The West Virginia Medical Cannabis Commission would be created to oversee a regulated and licensed system of cannabis cultivation centers and dispensaries. Dispensaries would be authorized to distribute cannabis and cannabis products to qualifying patients.

Medical Cannabis Now Legal in Croatia

croatiaWith the Regulation on Medical Marijuana Act taking effect today, October 15th, the possession and distribution of cannabis-based medicines is now legal in Croatia, an Eastern European country encompassing more than a thousand islands.

The new law allows those with illnesses such as cancer, multiple sclerosis and HIV/AIDS to purchase cannabis medicines such as teas, ointments and capsules from a state-licensed pharmacy. Although the law took effect today, no pharmacy is currently distributing the drug; initial sales are expected to begin sometime next year.

Minnesota House Approves Medical Cannabis Measure, Governor Announces Support

Minnesota’s full House of Representatives approved a a proposal today with an 86 to 39 vote to establish a medical cannabis study. Shortly after the vote Governor Mark Dayton announced that he would be willing to signmedicalcannabissymbol the measure into law if sent to him. The proposal will now head to the state’s Senate.

After the vote in the House, families were seen pumping their fists in celebration, and breaking into a round of hugs, according to the Associated Press.
