Oregon House Passes Measure to Allow Recreational Cannabis Sales to Begin Oct. 1st, Bill Heads to Governor

cannajarLegislation to allow legal recreational cannabis sales to begin this October 1st has been approved by Oregon’s House of Representatives with a 40 to 19 vote, just days after passing the Senate 23 to 6.

Senate Bill 460, which now goes to Governor Kate Brown, allows currently operating medical cannabis dispensaries to begin selling cannabis – tax free – to anyone 21 and older starting October 1st. They would be authorized to sell dried cannabis flowers, as well as cannabis seeds and clones.

Oregon Senator Announces Effort to Begin Legal Recreational Cannabis Sales this October

cannabisjointandbudOregon State Senator Floyd Prozanski (D-Eugene) has announced that he’s working on a proposal that would allow legal recreational cannabis sales to begin on October 1st, months before outlets are expected to open under the new system approved by voters last year (Measure 91).

The proposal would allow currently operating medical cannabis facilities to distribute recreational cannabis to anyone 21 and older starting on October 1st. Consumers would be authorized to purchase up to eight ounces of cannabis, and up to four cannabis plants.

Colorado: Over $70 Million in Legal Cannabis Sold in March, Setting Record for Third Straight Month

moneycannabisThere was roughly $74 million worth of legal cannabis sold in Colorado in March, setting a record for the third straight month.

In total, consumers spent more than $42 million on recreational cannabis, up from the $39 million they spent in February, and the $36 million they spent in January (both figures set records at the time).

In additional to the $42 million in recreational cannabis sold in March, there was $32 million worth of medical cannabis purchased. This is according to data released by the state’s Department of Revenue.

Washington: $25 Million in Legal Recreational Cannabis Sold in April, Over $6 Million in Taxes Garnered

cannabismoneyThere was nearly $25 million in recreational cannabis sold in Washington in April, the largest amount sold in the state since legal sales began last July.

In total, there was $24.8 million in legal recreational cannabis sold in April, resulting in $6.2 million in taxes for the state. This is according to recent numbers released by the Washington State Liquor Control Board (soon to be renamed the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Control Board).

Average Price of Legal Cannabis Drops by Over Half in Washington State

The price of legal recreational cannabis has dropped significantly in recent months in Washington, according to new data released by the state’s Liquor Control Board.

According to the Board, the average price of recreational cannabis throughout the state is $12 a gram. When sales began in July, average prices were near $30 a gram.

Nearly $40 Million in Recreational Cannabis Sold in Colorado in February, New Record

There wascolorado $39.2 million in legal recreational cannabis sold in Colorado in February, setting a record for the second straight month. The new numbers come courtesy of the Colorado Department of Revenue.

The nearly $40 million in sales garnered roughly $4 million in taxes for the state, with the majority of that money going to school construction.

According to the Department of Revenue, there was $700 million worth of legal cannabis sold in Colorado in 2014; $386 million for medical cannabis, and $314 million for recreational cannabis. This resulted in $76 million in taxes.
