There Was Over $135 Million in Legal Marijuana Sold in Colorado in September

There was over $135 million in marijuana and marijuana products sold legally in Colorado in September, according to data from the state’s Department of Revenue.

In total there was $135,536,453 in marijuana and marijuana products purchased legally in Colorado in September. This is slightly less than the $141 million sold in August, which set a record in the state for the most marijuana sold in a given month.

Of the $135 million in marijuana sold in September, $27.9 million came from medical marijuana sales, the remainder coming from the sale of recreational marijuana. These sales helped Colorado garner around $20 million in tax revenue for September alone.

Oregon Brings in Nearly $9 Million in Taxes from Legal Marijuana in April

Oregon made nearly $9 million in taxes from legal marijuana sales in April.

According to Oregon’s Department of Revenue, the state garnered $8,868,932 in marijuana sales taxes in April of this year. This marks an over 70% increase from April, 2017, when the state brought in a little over $5 million in marijuana taxes.

Of the $8.8 million in taxes garnered in April, the vast majority – $7.6 million – came from Oregon’s 17% state tax on marijuana. The remaining $1.2 million came from local taxes, which can be up to 3%.

WA: Over $142 Million in Legal Marijuana Sold in October, New Single-Month Record

There was $142,045,630 in legal marijuana and marijuana products sold in Washington in October, according to data released by the state’s Liquor and Cannabis Board.

The $142 million in marijuana sold in October marks a single-month record, besting the previous high of $133.5 million in August. The state garnered nearly $30 million in taxes from October’s sales. Overall for fiscal year 2018 – which began on July 1st – the state has garnered $120 million in taxes from $534 million in marijuana sales. This puts the state on track to top fiscal year 2017; the state brought in $314.8 million in taxes from $1.37 billion in sales.

The $142 million in marijuana sold in October in Washington is slightly higher than the amount of marijuana sold in Colorado during the same period; $127 million according to the state’s Department of Revenue.

Hawaii to Become First State to Go Cashless for Marijuana Sales

Hawaii said Tuesday that it will be the first state to require marijuana sales to be handled without cash, saying it wanted to avoid robberies and other crimes targeting dispensaries.

Medical marijuana dispensaries in Hawaii won’t be allowed to accept cash beginning Oct. 1 and will require people to use a debit payment app instead. The app is already an option for marijuana transactions in six states, including California and Colorado.

Many marijuana businesses use cash because banks fear pot money could expose them to legal trouble from the U.S. government, which regulates banking and still bans marijuana.

Washington State Garners Over $300 Million in Taxes from Marijuana Sales in FY 2017

Washington has garnered over $300 million in taxes from legal marijuana sales in fiscal year 2017.

This is according to data from the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB). In total the state has earned $304,968,332 in fiscal year 2017, which began on July 1, 2016 and ended on June 30. These taxes come from $1.32 billion in legal marijuana sales (all of this is as of June 20, meaning the total numbers for FY 2017 will end up slightly higher).

By comparison, there was $786 million in total marijuana sales, resulting in $185 million in taxes, in FY 2016. In FY 2015, the first fiscal year with legal cannabis sales, $64.8 million in taxes was garnered from $259 million in sales.

Legal Marijuana Sales Exceeded $45 Million on April 20 (4/20)

There was over $45 million in legal marijuana sold on April 20 (4/20), the unofficial cannabis holiday, according to a new report.

MJ Freeway, a leading provider of seed-to-sale tracking for the cannabis industry, reports that cannabis retail sales for April 20 exceeded $45 million, a 20% increase compared to the 2016 holiday.

Prior to 4/20, MJ Freeway predicted a 20% increase in retail cannabis sales and a 10% increase in customer traffic. MJ Freeway’s predictions and reports are based on sales data figures compiled through analysis of their majority cannabis retail market share.

WA: Legal Cannabis Sales Surpass $140 Million in October, New Record

Washington State has once again broken a record for legal cannabis sales.

salesIn October there was $141,031,391 worth of legal cannabis sold in Washington. This surpasses the previous record set last month, when roughly $139 million was sold. For comparison sake, there was $126 million in legal cannabis sold in the last full month data is available in Colorado, the other state where a legal cannabis market has been up and running for at least a couple years.

The $141 million sold in October resulted in $25,623,780 in taxes for the state.

More Legal Cannabis Sold in Washington than Colorado in August

money2For the first time legal cannabis sales in Washington State have surpassed those in Colorado.

According to new data released by the Colorado Department of Revenue, there was roughly $126 million in legal cannabis sold in the month of August. Although this is a record for the most amount of legal cannabis ever sold in Colorado in a single month (by comparison there was roughly $100 million sold last August), there was more sold during the same period in Washington State.

In August, there was $130 million in legal cannabis sold in Washington State, which remains the highest amount of legal cannabis sold in a given month in U.S. history.

For First Time Legal Cannabis Sales in Washington are Equal to Cannabis Sales in Colorado

cannabismoney1Up to this point, legal cannabis sales have been considerably higher in Colorado than Washington State, due in no small part to the fact that sales began in Colorado roughly six months earlier. However, that has changed, as there was almost an equal amount of cannabis sold in the two states in July.

According to recently released sales data, there was roughly $122 million worth of legal cannabis sold in Colorado in July. By comparison, there was roughly $121 million in legal cannabis sold in Washington during the same time period. In August, there was $130 million in cannabis sold in Washington, the highest amount ever sold in one state in one month. Sales data for August for Colorado won’t be released until next month.

If California Voters Legalize Cannabis in November, Market to be $6.5 Billion Annually by 2020

California VotersIf California voters give approval to Proposition 64 this November to legalize cannabis for everyone 21 and older, the legal cannabis market will be worth $6.5 billion annually by 2020, a new report has found.

According to the 2016 California Legal Cannabis Market State Profile, released by Arcview Market Research, California’s legal cannabis industry would grow from $2.76 billion in 2016, to $6.5 billion by 2020; the annual growth rate is estimated at 18.5%.

“California is the 6th largest economy in the world”, says Arcview CEO Troy Dayton. “The opportunity for jobs, tax money and wealth creation made possible by California ending marijuana prohibition cannot be overstated”.
