New RAND Report Reveals Predictions of Washington Cannabis Consumption for 2013 Not Even Close

A new report released from the RAND Drug Policy Research Center has found that past projections of cannabis consumptionstock2 in Washington for 2013 fell short – by hundreds of thousands of pounds.

The report estimates the weight of cannabis consumed in Washington in 2013 based on data collected from existing household surveys and a new web-based consumption survey, and the results indicate that previous projections of Washington’s consumption rate for 2013 reflected less than half of actual consumption for the year:

Uruguay Legalizes Recreational Cannabis

Uruguay has officially become the first country in the world to legalize recreational cannabis.

uruguayToday, the Uruguay Senate approved a cannabis legalization proposal – with a vote of 16 to 13 – which has already been approved by the nation’s House of Representatives. It now heads directly to President José Mujica for final consideration. Mujica introduced the bill, and has said that he will quickly sign it into law. The proposal will take effect 120 days after it’s signed.

New Poll: Majority of Colorado Residents Remain in Support of Legalized Cannabis

A new Quinnipiac University poll has found that a majority of Colorado residents remain in support of the state’s recently-approved constitutional amendmentsaved11 which legalized cannabis for adults. 54% are in favor of the new law, with 41% being in opposition; these numbers mirror results from last November’s election.

The poll also asked participants whether or not they thought the new law would “create drug abuse problems”, and found that a majority – 55% to 42% – believe that it won’t. It was also found that 51% of the state’s residents have consumed cannabis, and 15% plan to consume it once recreational sales begin next year.

Over 93% of Americans Agree that Medical Cannabis Should be Legalized, According to Poll

A U.S. News poll has found that over 93% of Americans believe that cannabis is medicine,iStock_000011929780Small and should be legalized for medicinal purposes. U.S. News is one of the nation’s oldest and most respected political news organizations, founded in 1933.

The poll, which has been questing readers for over 10 days, is found within an article which discusses the recent change of perspective by neurosurgeon Sanjay Gupta (CNN’s Chief Medical Correspondent), who recently apologized to the public for opposing medical cannabis in the past, and now believes strongly that it should be legalized.
