WA: Over $140 Million in Legal Marijuana Sold in October, Setting New Monthly Sales Record

In Washington State there was $142,045,620.27 worth of legal marijuana and marijuana products sold in October, easily breaking the previous monthly record set in August ($133 million).

The over $140 million in legal cannabis sold in October resulted in nearly $30 million in taxes for the state. So far for fiscal year (FY) 2018, which began on July 1st of this year, there has been $534 million in marijuana sold, resulting in over $120 million in taxes. For FY 2017, which began on July 1st, 2016, and ended on June 30th, 2017, there was $1,371,882,585.79 in legal marijuana sold in Washington State in fiscal year 2017; the state garnered $314,838,969.21 in taxes from these sales.

This data was obtained by the Washington State Liquor and Cannabis Board (WSLCB). According to the WSLCB, 1,896 licenses have been issued throughout the state for marijuana producers, processors and retail outlets.

WA: Legal Marijuana Sales Surpass $1.1 Billion in First 9-Months of 2017

Legal marijuana sales continue to thrive in Washington State, with sales for 2017 already matching sales for all of 2016.

In total there was $1,101,853,539 in legal marijuana sold in Washington from January 1st of this year, through the end of September, according to the state’s Liquor and Cannabis Board. This already matches the $1.1 billion sold in all of 2016. The $1.1 billion sold this year has resulted in roughly $242 million in taxes for the state. By comparison, Colorado has sold $1,118,207,832 in legal marijuana through the same period, indicating that both markets are roughly the same size.

Since the beginning of legal marijuana sales in Washington (July 1st, 2014), there has been over $2.7 billion in marijuana and marijuana products sold throughout the state. From these sales the state has garnered roughly $650 million in taxes.

Daily Marijuana Sales Reach $4.6 Million in Washington State, New High

There is now over $4.6 million in legal marijuana sold each day in Washington State.

The daily average of $4,611,558 worth of marijuana sold results in over $800,000 in daily tax revenue for the state. This comes out to a monthly average of $138 million in marijuana sold, and over $25 million in taxes garnered.

In 2016 there was a over $1.4 billion in legal cannabis sold in Washington State, which resulted in over $250 million. This total was slightly higher than the $1.3 billion worth of legal cannabis sold in Colorado in 2016, which garnered the state almost $200 million in taxes.

Colorado: $1.3 Billion in Legal Cannabis Sold in 2016, Nearly $200 Million in Taxes Generated

Colorado Department of Revenue has released data showing that there was $1.3 billion in cannabis sold last year.

This resulted in almost $200 million in new tax revenue for the state. A large portion is earmarked towards school construction and funding.

“Over one billion dollars in marijuana sales that once took place in the underground market were instead conducted in regulated businesses this year”, says Mason Tvert, Marijuana Policy Project’s Communication Director. “The state received nearly $200 million in marijuana tax revenue, whereas just a decade ago it was receiving zero.”

Over $1.4 Billion in Legal Marijuana Sold in Washington State in 2016

There was over $1.4 billion in legal marijuana sold in Washington State in 2016; this is according to data released by the Liquor and Cannabis Board.

legal marijuanaIn total there was approximately $1.41 billion in legal marijuana sold between January 1st and December 31st of last year. This resulted in over $260 million in taxes for the state. These numbers are based off of the sale of roughly 155,000 pounds of cannabis.

According to the Liquor and Cannabis Board, 467 cannabis retail outlets have been licensed; 917 licenses have been issues for cannabis producers and processors.

For fiscal year 2017, which began on July 1st, 2016, there has been $697,758,162 in legal cannabis sold, resulting in $130,066,915 in taxes for the state. This is based on the sale of 88,174 pounds of cannabis, and over 6 million units of cannabis extracts; this includes edibles, topicals and oils.

For comparison sake, there was $126 million in legal cannabis sold in the last full month data is available in Colorado, the other state where a legal cannabis market has been up and running for at least a couple years.

The $141 million sold in October resulted in $25,623,780 in taxes for the state.

The nearly $140 million in legal cannabis sold resulted in $26 million in taxes for the state. This brings the total amount of taxes the state has garnered from legal cannabis sales so far this year to around $250 million. The average daily sales are approximately $4.5 million, resulting in around $800,000 in taxes each day.

More Legal Cannabis Sold in Washington than Colorado in August

money2For the first time legal cannabis sales in Washington State have surpassed those in Colorado.

According to new data released by the Colorado Department of Revenue, there was roughly $126 million in legal cannabis sold in the month of August. Although this is a record for the most amount of legal cannabis ever sold in Colorado in a single month (by comparison there was roughly $100 million sold last August), there was more sold during the same period in Washington State.

In August, there was $130 million in legal cannabis sold in Washington State, which remains the highest amount of legal cannabis sold in a given month in U.S. history.

Oregon’s First Recreational Marijuana Retail Outlets Open Saturday

The Oregon Liquor Control Commission announced on Friday it has approved licenses for 26 retailers around the state, meeting a key deadline almost two years after voters passed a ballot measure legalizing pot.

“It’s a pretty exciting day for the OLCC,” Steven Marks, the executive director of the commission charged with regulating recreational marijuana, said in a conference call with journalists. He said 12 recreational retailers can start operating as soon as Saturday.
