Jeb BushIn a move that will likely come as a surprise to many, Republican presidential candidate Jeb Bush, brother of former President George W. Bush, has announced that he supports decriminalizing cannabis.

“It’s one thing to say we should have decriminalization of marijuana. I support that,” Bush said in an interview on WBZ NewsRadio. This marks the first time the former Florida Governor has endorsed a move to end incarceration for cannabis.

Chris Christie: ‘I’m Not Opposed to Medical Marijuana’

medmarDuring the September 16th CNN republican presidential debate, the issue of cannabis law reform came up, which host Jake Tapper called “one of the hottest questions” received by CNN from viewers.

Senator Rand Paul began the debate on the subject by stating, “What the American people don’t like about politics is the hypocrisy”, pointing to he fact that at least one of the candidates on stage has admitted to using cannabis in the past.

Former Florida Governor Jeb Bush, knowing Paul was talking about him, said that “40 years ago I smoked marijuana… I am sure that other people might have done it… and may not want to say it in front of 25 million people. My mom’s not happy that I just did.”

World’s Largest Cannabis Organization Names ‘Top 50 Most Influential Marijuana Consumers’

mpplogoEarlier this week the Marijuana Policy Project (MPP) released its annual list of the “Top 50 Most Influential Marijuana Consumers” in the United States, with President Barack Obama topping the list.

“About one out of every two Americans has used marijuana, including a whole lot of very successful people,” said Mason Tvert, MPP’s director of communications. “There are a lot more out there that we don’t know about because it is illegal. Marijuana is a less harmful substance than alcohol. Adults who use it responsibly should not have to choose between keeping it a secret or admitting to a crime.”
