Jamaica Makes First-Ever Shipment of Medical Marijuana to Canada

Jamaica has officially made its first-ever shipment of medical marijuana to Canada.

“Jamaica is uniquely positioned to be a global player and we are committed to providing the leadership and resources required for opening the international markets including Canada and Europe for our licensed and regulated Jamaican companies”, says Minister of Industry, Commerce, Agriculture and Fisheries Audley Shaw, in an announcement regarding the shipment.

The shipment was authorized through an import permit issued by the Government of Canada through Health Canada for Jamaica and an export permit issued by the Ministry of Health in Jamaica. The import permit from Health Canada was obtained on behalf of Jamaican-based licensed producer Timeless Herbal Care which was then granted an export permit by the Ministry of Health in Jamaica.

Jamaica’s Justice Minister Signs Automatic Cannabis Expungement Bill

jamaicaJust three months after Jamaica decriminalized the possession and personal cultivation of recreational cannabis, Justice Minister Mark Golding has signed into law an order that allows for the automatic expungement of certain cannabis convictions.

The Criminal Records (Rehabilitation of Offenders) (Automatic Expungement of Convictions) Order 2015 automatically expunges past cannabis convictions where the fine did not exceed J$1,000, and for charges involving the possession of cannabis paraphernalia, once a person applies for a certificate of their police record.

Cannabis Decriminalization Law Now in Effect in Jamaica

A lawcannabisplant decriminalizing the possession and cultivation of cannabis for everyone 18 and older, while legalizing it for medical, scientific and religious purposes, took effect in Jamaica on Wednesday, April 15th.

Under the new law – which was approved by lawmakers in February – the possession of up to two ounces of cannabis, and the private cultivation of up to five cannabis plants, is no longer an arrestable, criminal offense, but instead is a simple ticket. The proposal also establishes a cannabis licensing authority to oversee regulations for the cultivation, production and distribution of cannabis for medical, scientific and religious purposes.

Jamaica’s Legislature Approves Bill to Decriminalize Cannabis Possession and Cultivation, Legalize it For Medical, Scientific and Therapeutic Purposes

Jamaica’s lowerWhite-Berry-Marijuana-Bud House gave approval Tuesday night to legislation that would decriminalize cannabis possession and cultivation, and legalize cannabis for medical, scientific and therapeutic purposes.

The measure has already been approved by the full Senate, meaning it will now head to Prime Minister Portia Simpson Miller, who is supportive of the measure and is expected to quickly sign it into law.

Jamaica’s Senate Passes Bill to Decriminalize Cannabis, Legalize it for Medical, Therapeutic and Scientific Purposes

Jamaica’s Senate jamaicahas given approval to legislation that would decriminalize cannabis possession, and legalize it for medical, scientific and therapeutic purposes.

Under the proposed law, which now heads to the nation’s House of Representatives, the possession of up to two ounces of cannabis would no longer be an arrestable, criminal offense, but instead would become a simple ticket. The proposal would also establish a cannabis licensing authority to establish regulations for the cultivation, production and distribution of cannabis for medical, scientific and religious purposes.
