Presidential Candidate Bernie Sanders Announces Legislation to Abolish For-Profit Prisons

Vermont Senator and presidential candidate Bernie Sanders announced on Tuesday that he’ll be filing federal legislation next month to abolish the nation’s for-profit prison system, prohibiting for-profit prisons from operating within the United States.

“When congress reconvenes in September, I will be offering legislation, I will be introducing legislation, which takes corporations out of profiteering from running jails”, Sanders said at a rally on the University of Nevada’s campus which drew an estimated crowd of 5,000.

Former President of the United States Bill Clinton, whose wife Hilary is considered one of 2016’s top presidential candidates, has madebillclinton one of his first public comments in years regarding cannabis, saying that states should be allowed to decide their own cannabis policies, and claiming that there’s “a lot of evidence” surrounding the benefits of medical cannabis.

The comments were made during a recent interview on NBC’s Meet the Press, where Clinton was asked whether or not he thought it was time for the country to “give pot a chance”.

Hilary Clinton Supportive of Medical Cannabis, Open to Recreational Legalization

Former Secretary of State Hilary Clinton, who many consider a potential frontrunner for the 2016 presidential election, has made one of her first public statements regardinghilary medical cannabis and the recent legalization of recreational cannabis in Washington in Colorado.

“I think we need to be very clear about the benefits of marijuana use for medicinal purposes,” Clinton told CNN yesterday. “I don’t think we’ve done enough research yet, although I think for people who are in extreme medical conditions and who have anecdotal evidence that it works, there should be availability under appropriate circumstances.”
