Arizona: Activists Begin Collecting Signatures on Initiative to Legalize Hemp

The nonprofit organization Hemp Our World has begun collecting signatures on an initiative to legalize the cultivation of hemp in Arizona.hempourworld The group is aiming to put the proposal to a vote in the 2016 general election, and will be required to collect 150,642 valid signatures by July 7th, 2016 to meet that goal.

Christian Carrasco, the initiative’s chief organizer, says the inspiration behind the initiative is recently approved proposals in Colorado and Kentucky. If approved into law, the measure would allow the state’s Department of Agriculture to license farmers interested in cultivating hemp, which would be defined as having no more than 0.3% tetrahydrocannabinol (THC).
