Petition Calling on New Jersey Governor to Sign Medical Cannabis PTSD Bill Gets 11,000 Signatures in 5 Days

ptsdA petition calling on New Jersey Governor Chris Christie to sign Assembly Bill 457 into law has received over 11,000 signatures in just five days. Assembly Bill 457 would allow those with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to legally purchase, possess and use cannabis to help treat their ailment.

The proposal was given approval by the state’s legislature on August 1st, with a 29 to 9 in the Senate and a 56 to 13 vote in the Assembly. The measure now sits on the desk of Governor Chris Christie, who has the option of signing it into law, allowing it to become law without his signature, or vetoing it.

“We are calling¬†Governor Christie to quickly sign it into law, allowing those suffering from the ailment to use a medicine that research has continually shown is beneficial”, the petition states.

Chris Christie Will Go After States that Legalize Cannabis if Elected President

Although it won’t come as much surprise to those who know his political background, New Jersey Governor Chris Christie vowed on Sunday to overturn every state-level cannabis legalization law if he’s elected President next year.

The governor, speaking on CBS’ Face the Nation, said a Christie administration would use federal law to attack states that have legalized cannabis, including prosecuting those following their state’s law.

New Jersey Assembly Approves New Medical Cannabis Legislation

A proposal to improve New Jersey’s medical cannabis law has recently been approved by the state’s full Assembly with a 50 to 23 vote.medicalcannabisfam The proposal – Assembly Bill 4537 – now moves to the Senate.

Under this new law, qualified medical cannabis patients in New Jersey would be authorized to purchase cannabis products from other medical cannabis states; the proposal was filed in response to a 2-year old with epilepsy – Vivian Wilson – whose parents (Meghan and Brian Wilson) have had challenges obtaining medical cannabis extracts for her, which they believe will be useful in treating her seizures.
