The Top 5 Influential Cannabis Consumers of 2016

Below is a list of the 5 most influential cannabis consumers so far this year. To clarify, we are referring to current (at least within the last year) cannabis consumers that are influential in reforming cannabis policies, not celebrities/activists who work on or promote other causes and just happen to smoke cannabis (which is great in its own right, but not what this list is about).

Given the list is exclusive to those who have smoked cannabis in the past year, we can only include those who have admitted to doing so (or have been seen clearly doing so in publicly without publicly denying or apologizing for it).

Here we go:

(AP Photo/Evan Vucci)A new survey we conducted in conjunction with Survey Monkey has found that a slight plurality, though far from a majority, of cannabis consumers who are likely to vote in the upcoming election support Hillary Clinton for president. Governor Gary Johnson came in a close second (close enough to be within the margin of error), with Donald Trump and Dr. Jill Stein falling not far behind (though outside of the margin of error).

According to the poll, 29.4% of likely voters who consume cannabis at least once a month support Hillary Clinton, who won the plurality of the vote. Gary Johnson received 26.3% support, with Trump coming in third with 24%. Stein finished last among the group, but not by far, garnering 20.2% support.

The Marijuana Policy Project (MPP), the largest cannabis policy group in the world, has officially endorsed Libertarian candidate Gary Johnson for president of the United States. Johnson is the former governor of New Mexico (1995 – 2003).

“Of the three presidential candidates who will appear on the ballot in all 50 states and D.C., Gary Johnson clearly has the best position on marijuana policy”, says MPP Executive Director Rob Kampia. “When he first advocated for legalization in 1999, he was the highest-ranking public official in the U.S. to do so — as the sitting Republican governor of New Mexico, no less.”

MPP Updates Cannabis Scorecard for Presidential Candidates, Includes Third-Party Nominees

jointThe Marijuana Policy Project (MPP), the nation’s largest cannabis policy organization, has released their updated presidential candidate voter guide for the general election, which now includes third-party candidates. The full guide can be found by clicking here.

Former New Mexico Governor Gary Johnson, who was nominated Sunday by the Libertarian Party, and physician Jill Stein, the presumptive Green Party nominee, were both added to the voter guide, and both received “A+” grades. Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump received a “C+” – primarily based on his past support for legalizing medical cannabis – and the two remaining Democratic candidates, Hillary Clinton and Bernie Sanders, received a “B” and an “A,” respectively (though in all honesty, we here at TheJointBlog do take issue with Clinton receiving a “B”, when all she supports is rescheduling cannabis to schedule 2 alongside drugs such as cocaine; and even this she didn’t support until the current election cycle).
