American Academy of Pediatrics Endorses Rescheduling Cannabis, Decriminalizing Cannabis Possession

The American Academy pediatricsof Pediatrics (AAP) has released an official position paper announcing their support for decriminalizing cannabis possession, as well as rescheduling cannabis so that children with debilitating conditions can use the medicine, and so that more studies can be conducted.

“The AAP strongly supports the decriminalization of marijuana use and encourages pediatricians to advocate for laws that prevent harsh criminal penalties for possession or use of marijuana.”, says Dr. Seth Ammerman, a clinical professor in pediatrics at Stanford University and the position paper’s lead author. “A focus on treatment for adolescents with marijuana use problems should be encouraged, and adolescents with marijuana use problems should be referred to treatment.”
