Poll: For First Time Ever, More Republicans Support Legalization than Oppose it

legalizemeyoFor the first time a national poll has found that a plurality of Republicans support the legalization of cannabis for recreational use. The poll also found a strong majority of all Americans to be in support of the move.

According to the YouGov poll, 45% of Republicans favor legalizing cannabis, with 42% opposed; 13% remain undecided. Just eight months ago the numbers were drastically different, with just 36% of Republicans favoring legalization compared to 50% opposed.

National Democrats Urge Feds to Remove Cannabis as Schedule 1 Drug

maineThe Platform Committee of the National Democratic Committee has officially given approval to a party platform calling on the federal government to remove cannabis as a schedule 1 drug, “providing a reasoned pathway for future legalization”.

The committee voted 81 to 80 to approve the following platform:

Because of conflicting laws concerning marijuana, both on the federal and state levels, we encourage the federal government to remove marijuana from its list as a Class 1 Federal Controlled Substance, providing a reasoned pathway for future legalization.

National Democrats Approve Party Platform Calling for Cannabis Law Reform

dncThe Platform Drafting Committee for the Democratic National Committee has given unanimous approval to a party platform calling for a reformation of the nation’s cannabis policies.

Although members of the committee appointed by Senator Bernie Sanders put forth a platform stating that the Democrats support “removing marijuana from the Controlled Substances Act and allowing states to set their own policies”, the committee eventually passed something considerably more conservative.

Millenials: 63% of Republicans, 77% of Democrats Support Legalizing Cannabis, Finds Poll

New polling releasedsaginawgrossepointe by Pew Research has found strong nationwide support for legalizing cannabis, especially among millenials (those born between 1981 and 1996).

According to the poll, 63% of Republican millenials believe that cannabis should be made legal. Support is even higher among Democrats, at 77%.

Strong support was also found in both parties among those that fall into the “Gen X” category (born between 1965 and 1980). Although Republican support is below 50%, its not far off far off at 47%. For Democrats, support is at a sturdy 61%.
