Delaware Legislature Unanimously Approves Bill to Expand Medical Cannabis Law

Legislation that would add two new conditions that qualify someone to become a medical cannabis patient has been passed by Delaware’s full legislature.

According to its official summary, House Bill 374 “adds glaucoma and chronic debilitating migraines to the list of debilitating medical conditions which may qualify a person, upon certification by a physician, to be eligible for the use of medical marijuana in accordance with the terms of the Delaware Medical Marijuana Act.”

The measure was passed by the House of Representatives last month in a unanimous 41 to 0 vote. It was passed by the Senate yesterday, also unanimously (19 to 0). The bill will now go to Governor John Carney for consideration. Although Carney has the option of signing it into law, allowing it to become law without a signature, or vetoing it, the legislature can override a veto with 2/3rds vote.

Delaware Governor Signs Medical Marijuana PTSD Bill

Delaware Governor John Carney has signed into law a bill that allows those with post traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) to more easily become medical marijuana patients.

Governor Carney has signed the Bravery Bill into law, allowing those with PTSD to become legal medical marijuana patients if they receive a recommendation from a licensed physician. Before the new law those with PTSD could only get approval for medical marijuana use if they were recommended it by a licensed psychiatrist.

The Bravery Bill was introduced by Senate Majority Leader Margaret Rose Henry, and received strong bipartisan support in both the House of Representatives and Senate.

First Ever Medical Cannabis Dispensaries Open in Massachusetts and Delaware

openFor the first time in their state’s histories, a medical cannabis dispensary is now open and operating in both Massachusetts and Delaware, years after the medicine was legalized.

In Massachusetts, Alternative Therapies Group, based in Salem, officially opened Thursday morning. The dispensary, which is located at 50 Grove Street in Salem (01970), is accepting patients by appointment only.

Delaware Governor Signs Bill Legalizing Medical Cannabis Oil for Minors

cannaoilDelaware Governor Jack Markell has signed into law legislation that legalizes the medical use of cannabis oil for children suffering from certain ailments. The measure – Senate Bill 90 – was passed unanimously by the state’s legislature.

Sponsored by Senator Ernie Lopez (R-Lewes), Senate Bill 90 allows children with a qualifying medical condition who receive a recommendation from a physician to possess and use cannabis oil that has at least 15% CBD (cannabidiol) or THC-A (tetrahydrocannabinol acid), and no more than 7% THC. Qualifying conditions include seizure disorders and any medical condition that has not responded to standard treatments and that involves intractable nausea, severe muscle spasms or wasting.

Legislation to legalize the medical use of cannabis oil for children suffering from a variety of ailments passed Delaware’s House of Representative Thursday with a unanimousWelcome to Delaware_890_0_0 40 to 0 vote. It passed the Senate last week, also unanimously (21 to 0).
