State Report: Cannabis Legalization in California Would Make, Save Hundreds of Millions of Dollars

The Secretary of State’s office in California has released its fiscal impact note on a cannabis legalization initiative which was recently approved for circulation. According to the report, the proposal would save the stacaliflagte hundreds of millions of dollars in reduced cannabis-enforcement, in addition to hundreds of millions of dollars in increased tax revenue.

According to the report; “The measure would result in reduced costs to the state and local governments by reducing the number of marijuana offenders incarcerated in state prisons and county jails, as well as the number placed under community supervision (such as county probation).”

Cannabis Legalization Initiative Approved for Circulation in California

California’s Secretary of State’s office announced today that the Californiacchi Cannabis Hemp Initiative has passed through its initial hurdle, and proponents may now begin collecting the 504,760 valid signatures required to put the proposal to a vote of the people in 2014; the group will have 150 days. This announcement comes just a day after the Public Policy Institute of California announced that 60% of likely voters in the state support the legalization of cannabis.
