A House committee in Indiana has voted to approve a bill that legalizes cannabdiol (CBD) oil.
The vote on House Bill 1214 comes just a couple days after a Senate committee approved a similar measure. House Bill 1214 was given approval by the House Committee on Courts and Criminal Code in a unanimous 9 to 0 vote (with four committee members absent).
The approved bill “Specifies that the definition of “industrial hemp” includes the resins of the Cannabis sativa plant. Defines “CBD oil” as a product that contains: (1) not more than 0.3% THC; (2) at least 5% cannabidiol; and (3) no other controlled substances. Legalizes CBD oil”, and “Repeals superseded provisions relating to cannabidiol registration.”
When purchasing cannabis, the 1/8 (one eighth) quantity is a very popular one. But how many grams are actually in 1/8 of an ounce of marijuana?
For all intents and purposes, an eighth of cannabis is 3.5 grams; this is the amount you’ll be purchasing when buy 1/8 from a dealer or cannabis outlet. However, technically speaking 1/8 of marijuana is 3.54 grams.
The same slight discrepancy is true of all other typical forms of marijuana quantities that are sold:
1/8 an ounce = 3.54 grams
1/4 an ounce = 7.08 grams
1/2 an ounce = 14.17 grams
1 ounce = 28.34 grams
Below is a visual comparison of these quantities, courtesy of Leafly:
When purchasing from a dealer or cannabis retail outlet, all of these will be quantities that are used; in addition to the standard one gram. Some will sell smaller amounts, such as half grams; others may sell larger amounts, such as quarter or half pounds (four and eight ounces). In rare instances a full pound might be offered; this equals a full 16 ounces. However, in most states with legal cannabis, outlets aren’t legally allowed to sale over an ounce (though in Maine the limit is 2.5 ounces).
Other marijuana quantities:
Although the quantities shown in the image above are the most common when it comes to marijuana, some like to purchase even larger amounts. Here are some of those options:
Quarter pound:
A quarter pound of marijuana contains four ounces. Given that most legal states have a limit of 2.5 ounces of less, purchasing a quarter pound or more at one time is typically relegated to the black market. A quarter pound equals:
32 eights
112 grams
Half pound:
A half pound of marijuana contains eight ounces. A half pound equals:
64 eights
224 grams
Full pound:
A full pound of marijuana contains 16 ounces. A full pound equals:
