Proposal to Legalize Recreational Cannabis Filed in Wisconsin

A proposal to legalize recreational cannabis has been introduced in Wisconsin. LRB 3671/1 would legalize the possession of up to a half ounce of cannabis, as well as authorizewisconsin cannabis retail outlets.

“After researching this issue extensively, I believe that this bill will benefit Wisconsin and its citizens in many ways, including: addressing racial disparities in arrests, providing medical benefits, time and cost savings to law enforcement, and additional revenue for the state,” says Melissa Sargent, the primary sponsor of the bill. Six other lawmakers have signed on as cosponsors.

According to recent polling, a majority of those in Wisconsin are in favor of such a move; a Marquette University Law School Poll released in November found that 50% of those in the state support legalizing recreational cannabis, compared to 44% that are opposed.

What the states voters want and the radical republicans want are not the same. I wish this would happen.
