Poll: Strong Majority of Utah Residents Support Legalizing Medical Cannabis

utahThe vast majority of those living in Utah support the move to legalize the medical use of cannabis, according to a new poll commissioned by UtahPolicy and conducted by Dan Jones & Associates.

According to the poll, 66% of those in Utah support legalizing medical cannabis – given it’s prescribed by a doctor – with just 28% opposed to the move. 5% of those in Utah have either no opinion on the issue, or have yet to make up their mind about whether or not they support allowing cannabis to be used medicinally.

In February Utah’s Senate passed a measure – Senate Bill 73 – which would have legalized the possession, use and retail distribution of medical cannabis for those with a variety of ailments. Unfortunately the measure by Senator Mark Madsen failed to advance further, though hopefully this new poll will make opposing lawmakers reconsider their stance.

In Utah, thanks to a law passed in 2014, the use of medical cannabis oil is permitted for those with seizure disorders, though the narrow law doesn’t allow for safe access points, requiring patients to find their own means of procuring their medicine.
