Poll Finds 84% of Britons Believe the Drug War Can Never Be Won, 52% Support Cannabis Legalization

A new poll commissioned by the Observer has found that an overwhelminggreatbritain majority of those in Great Britain believe that the drug war has failed, and can never be won. The poll also found majority support for legalizing cannabis, and growing support for decriminalizing the possession of hard drugs such as ecstasy.

According to the poll, 84% of Britons believe the drug war can never be won, and 52% are in support of legalizing cannabis similar to how Washington and Colorado have done in the United States. The survey also found 39% to be in favor of decriminalizing drug possession, up 12% since 2008.

In Great Britain, the simple possession of a Class A narcotic (which includes, cocaine, ecstasy, heroin, LSD and magic mushrooms) can land someone in jail for up to 7 years. Supplying a Class A narcotic can result in a life sentence.
