Poll: 71% of California Voters Plan to Vote “Yes” on Cannabis Legalization in November
New polling conducted by the CALSPEAKS Opinion Research Center has found that a vast majority of voters in California plan to vote “Yes” on Proposition 64 this November to legalize cannabis for everyone 21 and older.
According to the poll, 71% of likely voters in the state are leaning towards voting in favor of the Adult Use of Marijuana Act (AUMA), which would legalize the possession of up to an ounce of cannabis, and the personal cultivation of up to six cannabis plants, for those 21 and older. The measure would also established a system of licensed cannabis cultivation centers and retail outlets.
The poll found support to be strongest among those aged 18 to 34, with a whopping 84% stating that they plan to vote “Yes” on the initiative. Latinos at 81% and Democrats at 80% were the next two groups where support was the highest.
The poll marks a 7% increase in support from polling released last month which found that 64% of California voters support legalizing cannabis.
I’m all for cannabis legalization in California, as well as all other US states. This silly prohibition must end soon. Everyone who wants to smoke it does anyway, so why waste time and resources on something that was politically inspired to protect competing corporations and corporations who benefit from arresting people for carrying minor amounts.
Good for them. I hope other states will follow and prohibition ends. Perhaps it will help curb the opiate addiction crisis one day, and cut the big pharma’s.
