Poll: 66% of Americans Say Private Cannabis Consumption Should be Legal

66% of Americans believe that adults should be able to legally possess and consume cannabis in their own homes, according toLos Angeles City Council Votes To Ban Medical Marijuana Dispensaries a HuffingtonPost/YouGov survey released earlier this month.

According to the poll, 72% of Democrats and 70% of Independents believe that the private consumption of recreational cannabis should be legal. Republicans are also in support, 50% to 39%.

55% of the survey’s respondents, including 62% of Democrats and 60% of Independents, also stated that they support statewide laws which seek to legalize, tax and regulate the production and retail sale of cannabis to adults, such as laws approved in 2012 in Colorado (Amendment 64) and Washington State (Initiative 502). 57% believe that cannabis consumption should be legally allowed at member-only cannabis clubs.

The poll, which can be found by clicking here, has a margin of error of +/- 3.9 percent.

  2. I was concerned to hear cannabis legalization vote is getting a negative response in Alaskan poles. I am curious how strong the black market is there and I wonder if their state just does not need the monies for services like the rest of the main land US of America. I don’t want to support the black market when I see what legalized cannabis sales can do for a state like Colorado! It is just marvelous! Take note they voted for Sarah Palin to be their leader at 1 point so yes please step up with more messages about what legal cannabis sales can do for their pelople. Ignorance is NOT BLISS! Legalize NOW. The goal is sea to shining sea. Legal cannabis for all adults.
