Philippine’s House Committee Passes Bill to Legalize Medical Marijuana

The Philippine House Committee on Health passed legislation Wednesday that would legalize medical marijuana.

House Bill 180 would legalize the possession and use of medical marijuana for those who receive a recommendation from a physician. The measure would establish a system of regulated dispensaries accessible by all qualified patients.

“I have high hopes under the Duterte administration that this measure would be enacted into law”,  Representative Rodolfo Albano III, the bill’s sponsor, told The Philippine Star. “Finally, there is hope for our people, especially our children, who suffer from medical conditions like epilepsy, cancer and multiple sclerosis”.

Representative Seth Jalosjos, a supporter of the bill, says that legalizing medical marijuana “will benefit thousands of patients suffering from serious and debilitating diseases.” The measure has the backing of the Philippine Cancer Society.

The passage of House Bill 180 comes just a day after the full House of Representatives approved the move to reinstate the death penalty for drug-related offenses.

I know this article is a couple of years old, but is there any information anywhere with regards to this HB 180? Did it just lay idle or die somewhere?
