Oregon Democratic Party Endorses Cannabis Legalization Initiative
The official Democratic Party of Oregon has endorsed Measure 91, a proposal to legalize recreational cannabis for adults which will be on this November’s ballot.
“A majority of Americans and large majority of Democrats now support state regulation of legal marijuana use”, says Andrew Gorry, a spokesman for the Oregon Democratic Party. “Measure 91 is the right approach to legalization in Oregon, strictly regulating use while funding law enforcement and schools. Vote Yes on 91.”
Measure 91, put forth by New Approach Oregon, would legalize the possession and use of up to eight ounces of cannabis, as well as the private cultivation of up to four cannabis plants. State-licensed cannabis retail outlets will also be authorized and regulated by the Oregon Liquor Commission.
According to polling released in June, a majority of Oregon voters – 51% to 41% – favor the legalization of cannabis.
