New Hampshire Poll: 54% Support Legalizing Cannabis, 63% Favor Decriminalizing It
New polling released by the University of New Hampshire Survey Center has found that a majority of New Hampshire adults favor legalizing cannabis for recreational purposes, and an even higher majority favors decriminalizing cannabis.
According to the poll, 54% of New Hampshire adults support legalizing cannabis, with just 36% opposed. When it comes to decriminalizing cannabis, 63% support the idea, and 27% are opposed to it.
When asked what they would prefer their state legislature do with cannabis laws, 50% said they want them to legalize and tax it like alcohol, 18% said they want them to decriminalize it, and just 29% want them to keep the laws as they are now.
The survey found a plurality of support among Democrats, Independents and Republicans for legalizing cannabis.
58% of Democrats and 56% of Independents said they prefer legalizing and taxing cannabis. Among Republicans, 38% prefer legalizing cannabis, and 37% prefer keeping laws the way they are now.
