Missouri Governor Signs Medical Cannabis Bill Into Law

Missouri Governor Jay Nixon has signed House Bill 2238 into law, a proposal which legalizes the possession, use andmedicalcannabissymbol distribution of low-THC cannabis extracts for medical purposes.

Under the new law, the state’s Department of Agriculture is authorized to produce, manufacture and distribute cannabis extract that’s low in THC (tetrahydrocannabinol) and high in CBD (cannabidiol). Those with seizure disorders who receive a recommendation from a physician will be allowed to possess up to 20 ounces of cannabis extracts (unless the physician recommends more), and two not-for-profit outlets will be opened to provide safe access to the medicine.

The proposal also mandates the state to certify a college to cultivate cannabis for research purposes.

The full bill can be found by clicking here.

I’m new to this subject and would like to know who are our supporters in the General Assembly. Do you have details on who supported this? I mean the real workhorses who made it happen. And just as important, where did the main opposition come from? I’m guessing law enforcement, but I’m still pretty unaware of the players in this battle.
    Thanks!
