Medical Cannabis Bill Signed Into Law by North Carolina Governor

North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory has officially signed into law House Bill 1220, a proposal to legalize cannabis oil for medical goldsymbolpurposes. The bill was approved unanimously by the state’s Senate, and passed the state’s House 112 to 1.

Under the new law the possession and use of cannabis extracts will be legal for those with seizure disorders who receive a recommendation from a neurologist and a registration card from the state’s Department of Health; Neurologists will be authorized to dispense the medicine to patients.

A provision in the measure allows, and even encourages colleges in the state to study the potential of the cannabis compound cannabidiol in treating epilepsy.

The proposal takes effect immediately, with patients able to legally possess the medicine once the Department of Health finalizes their process for individuals wishing to apply for a registration card.
