Colorado Initiative Would Prevent Cannabis Consumers From Being Denied Concealed Weapon Permits

A group gunrightscalling itself the Colorado Campaign for Equal Gun Rights has announced that it’s attempting to put an initiative to a vote of the people in 2016 aimed at prohibiting individuals from being denied concealed weapon permits simply because they’re a cannabis consumer or a registered medical cannabis patient.

“It’s just ridiculous,” says Edgar Antillon, one of the campaign’s organizers. “Somebody can get extremely drunk — Saturday, Sunday, Monday, and all week if they want — and they can still get a concealed carry permit.”

The proposal would alter state law to prevent police from denying concealed carry permits because of cannabis use. Advocates will need to collect roughly 86,000 signatures to put the issue to a vote.
