The uptake and use of cannabis for both recreational and medical purposes has more and more become mainstream. In the US alone, cannabis is legal in ten states for recreational purposes and twenty nine states have legalized the use of marijuana for medical purposes.
CBD, a compound of the cannabis plan, is an increasingly popular product being manufactured and sold for it’s potential to relieve a wide range of ailments. CBD is a type of cannabinoid which contains anti-inflammatory and anti-anxiety properties. The CBD products that are currently being sold contain low levels of THC and cater to the type of person who doesn’t want to get high. CBD oil sales for brands like Bluebird Botanicals have exploded given CBD is non psychoactive, legal, safe, and effective according to it’s users.
THC and CBD are the two cannabinoids that are most popular but there are many more in the cannabis plant. In simple terms, cannabinoids are compounds that interact with the main endocannabinoid system (ECS). There are two types of cannabinoids that interact with the system: endocannabinoids which are found naturally in the body and phytocannabinoids which are found in plants. THC and CBD are also found in other plants such as rosemary.
The Endocannabinoid System (ECS)
ECS is made up of natural cannabinoids and their receptors. The discovery of the ECS is as a result of studies conducted on the marijuana plant. Studies have concluded diseases such as arthritis, depression, pain, fibromyalgia, IBS and headache is as a result of low levels of natural cannabinoids or changes in the activity of the ECS system.
The discoveries have led to scientists coming up with terms such as “clinical endocannabinoid deficiency” and “endocannabinoid tone” to give an indication of the overall state of a person’s endocannabinoid systems. This is an area that’s still under research and there’s likely to be more discovery on the subject in the near future.
Stress and the Endocannabinoid (ECS) System?
In the present world, it’s almost impossible to live a life that’s devoid of stress. We experience stress at the workplace when we’re expected to deliver results, when we’re in stuck in traffic, sickness that’s taking a toll on our finances, and even death of a loved one.
Studies have concluded the endocannabinoid system plays a huge role in how our bodies reacts to stresses in our lives. This is a major reason CBD has been effective in reducing stress levels. We can use this discovery to minimize how the negative effects stresses have on our bodies. Conditions such as asthma, depression are made worse by stress. Understanding the endocannabinoid system and how it works get rid of the stress is a step in the right direction to leading a healthy life.
Studies have shown that the endocannabinoid system plays a major role in our overall well-being. Natural cannabinoids and those we consume from CBD supplements plays a huge role in regulating stress in our bodies. This is an area that’s still under study and we’ll get more conclusive studies soon. From the look of things, the future is bright when it comes to how we deal with stress by understanding how ECS works. Products related to THC and CBD have shown to affect the endocannabinoid system and help alleviate things like stress and anxiety.
