Britney Spears Admits to Smoking Marijuana as a Teenager

britBy Duke London, Marijuana.com

Britney Spears was catching serious vibes from her fans at a recent Vegas concert, so much so that she admitted feeling a “contact high” to The Jonathan Ross Show. Britney is nearing the end of her 4-year run in Las Vegas, so she’s cognizant of the party atmosphere at her Sin City shows.

“I am aware of the partying that’s going on,” Spears told Ross of her Britney: Piece of Me residency at Planet Hollywood. “A lot of the people are very intoxicated during the shows.”

As the interview continued, so did revelations about Britney Spears getting baked.

“I actually got contact high. I haven’t smoked weed since I was like 17 years old and all of a sudden, towards the end of the show, it was so strong I couldn’t function because I just got the contact of it. I was like, ‘Oh my goodness!’ I had to leave, I had to go. I kinda just said, ‘I can’t do it anymore.’”

Don’t let her playful demeanor about the situation fool you, this isn’t the first time the “If U Seek Amy” singer has used weed as a scapegoat to ditch her adoring fans. A 2009 Daily Mail story exposed Brit for storming off-stage in Vancouver after getting a whiff of smoke, only to return and go full-preacher (which you never want to do) on the crowd.

Britney Spears upset fans last night when she stormed off stage for 40 minutes. The singer was just three songs into the Vancouver date of her Circus tour when the stage went black and Britney vanished. After keeping the audience waiting without an explanation, an announcement over a loudspeaker finally told the crowd excessive smoke around the stage had caused the interruption.

‘Please extinguish all cigarettes – this is a non-smoking building, and the show will resume when the smoke on the stage is cleared.’ The announcement provoked angry boos from the crowd, who had been in good spirits until the show’s halt.

Her spokesperson said: ‘We want to apologise to all the fans who attended our Vancouver show tonight for the brief pause in Britney’s set. ‘Crew members above the stage became ill due to a ventilation issue.’ After just over an hour on stage, Britney closed the show with a rendition of Womanizer surrounded by a curtain of sparkly pyrotechnics.

Taking a bow, Britney said: ‘Thank you Vancouver, you guys have a wonderful night. Drive safe, don’t smoke weed.’ Despite Britney’s comments about marijuana, her spokesperson denied reports the smoke from the illegal herb had caused the disruption, insisting it was tobacco fumes.

It’s important to note that Britney was performing in a police uniform while chastising weed use, as you can see in the video of the Vancouver incident below. Also, laugh-out-loud statement from Britney aka Narc Barbie’s spokesperson back in 2009 regarding the crew becoming “ill” from the smoke, hope they got a raise and are still spin-zoning like a champ out there somewhere.

Some people may be shocked by Spears admitting that she smoked weed as a teenager, but not this writer. Her early lyrics paint a smokey picture of Britney blazing up that good good all day long.

Take the lead single from Britney’s debut album for instance, where Spears clearly sang from a blunt’s perspective when belting out “hit me baby one more time.” This also lines up with her admission to smoking around that time.

The admission of her penchant for smoking marijuana early on was a step in the right direction, but it’s high time to end the charade Britney Spears — we’re onto you.
