There Are Far Fewer Incidences of Vaping Illness in States with Legal Marijuana, Finds Study

According to a new study, incidences of the vaping-related lung illness EVALI (e-cigarette or vaping product use-associated lung injury) are considerably lower in states that have legal marijuana markets. The study, titled Association of state marijuana legalization policies for medical and recreational use with vaping-associated lung disease , was published in the Journal of the American Medical Association (JAMA) Network Open.

Girl Who Helped Inspire Popular Charlotte’s Web Marijuana Strain Dies

Charlotte Figi, a girl with a rare form of epilepsy whose recovery inspired the name of a medical marijuana oil that drew families of children with similar health problems to Colorado for treatment has died after being hospitalized and treated as a likely coronavirus patient, her mother said Wednesday. Charlotte Figi was 13, reports the Associated Press.

Case Report Finds Cannabis Provides Symptom Relief in Those With Treatment-Resistant TBI

According to a new case report, the use of medical cannabis is associated with decreases in agitation and other symptoms of post-traumatic stress in a 38-year-old patient with an acquired traumatic brain injury (TBI). The report was published in the journal Psychosomatics, and first reported on by NORML.

For the case report researchers from the University of New Mexico Health Sciences Center reported on the effect of medical cannabis treatment in a TBI patient with post-traumatic stress and major depressive disorder. The patient had been unresponsive to conventional therapies.

Two of Five Medical Marijuana Dispensaries Close in Iowa

According to Iowa state officials, medical marijuana dispensaries have closed in Council Bluffs and Davenport. The disclosure Monday by the Iowa Public Health Department said patients and caregivers still may purchase the cannabidiol products at Iowa’s three other licensed outlets, in Sioux City, Waterloo and in the Des Moines suburb of Windsor Heights.

Maryland Legislature Approves Measure to Allow Medical Cannabis Use on School Grounds

The Maryland House of Representatives and Senate have both approved House Bill 617 which would allow qualified medical marijuana patients access to certain medical cannabis products while on school grounds. The measure now goes to the governor, who has the option of signing it into law, allowing it to become law without a signature, or vetoing it (which would stop it from becoming law unless 2/3rds of the legislature overrides the veto).
