Attorney General Jeff Sessions Resigns at President Trump’s Request

Attorney General Jeff Sessions resigned Wednesday at the request of President Trump.

“At your request, I am submitting my resignation,” Sessions wrote to Trump on Twitter, adding that he was “honored to serve” the president.

“We are pleased to announce that Matthew G. Whitaker, Chief of Staff to Attorney General Jeff Sessions at the Department of Justice, will become our new Acting Attorney General of the United States. He will serve our Country well….”, said President Trump on Twitter.

The news will come as a positive for marijuana advocates, given Sessions’ long-standing war against the plant. However, it’s very possible whoever Trump appoints as the next permanent AG will also oppose marijuana – though maybe not as much as Sessions.
