Alaska’s First Cannabis Retail Outlet Now Open, Giving Away Free Cannabis
Alaska’s first-ever cannabis retail outlet, Artic Herbery, is now officially open in Anchorage. Given that cannabis isn’t legally ready to be sold yet, the shop is currently only stocked with cannabis accessories such as pipes, bongs and rolling papers. However, the shop can – and is – giving away “free samples” to all customers 21 and older. The shop will have cannabis for sell in the coming weeks as the state’s regulatory system comes into fruition.
“When you hand someone a joint or a nug, they kind of get excited about it,” says Bryant Thorp, owner of Artic Herbery.
On Friday the state and municipality issued their first license to a testing facility, the last major hurdle to get Alaska’s legal cannabis system up and running..
Artic Herbery is open in Midtown near West 71st Avenue on Arctic Boulevard. The store opens at 8am and closes at midnight.
